For textile enthusiasts, we arrange trips that bring traditional Greek handicrafts and techniques to life! Athens offers a world of exhibitions — the Historical Museum with Greek embroidery, stamped fabric and cloth weaving collections… the folk embroidery displays at the Benaki Museum… the bridal sheet exhibit at the Folk Art Museum… and the Museum of Traditional Pottery and the Jewelry Museum.
Beyond the museums, there are endless possibilities for unique inclusions such as visiting the most famous leather sandal maker in Athens, a studio visit to see a master at work in icon art, or a visit to a specialty pottery workshop. In Crete, we can arrange classes of traditional embroidery of Greek stitches, weaving classes and demonstrations of the traditional wooden loom demonstrations of traditional woven fabrics and carpets such as Greek flokatis.
There are opportunities in many locations to meet local craftspeople at traditional ceramics and alabaster workshops. Groups can even be taken to the Komboloi Museum to learn about the history and production of the Greek worry beads.
Arts & Crafts groups often like cooking inclusions as well, with a chance to learn an authentic Greek recipe, or to visit a winery or learn about local delicacies at a friendly taverna in a small village. In-depth, hands-on adventures in the arts and crafts can be arranged and enjoyed by all.
